Think Globally

Adapted from Plant What Others Throw Away: How to Turn Everyday Items into Symbols of Success by Paul R. Lloyd. Book release coming spring 2009 from PromiseGarden.com.

Keep your eye on the vast horizon of possibilities by looking beyond your next paycheck or next year’s profits. Global thinkers consider the broader philosophical issues involved in their business decisions.

  • Why are you doing what you are doing?

  • Why is it a good idea to decide a certain way?

  • How does what you are doing fit into your overall plan for success?

  • How does your company benefit?

  • How does your customer benefit?

  • How do you benefit personally?

  • How can the decisions you make achieve a win for everyone involved?

How do you learn to think globally? Start with awareness. Learn to look beyond the obvious facts for hidden meanings. Ask lots of “why” questions. Become curious. On the spiritual side, develop your prayer life. Pray about your business. Ask God to show you the global view from His perspective. Listen for God’s direction. Look at Jesus in your mind and wait for His answer.

Jesus thought globally. He wasn’t satisfied to save the sinners in ancient Israel. Instead, He sent his disciples out to spread the good news to the whole world.

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 1:8
